Pongal Festival

India is a land of festivals. Every state has its own customs and traditions. Pongal is one of the famous festivals in Tamil Nadu. It is also called a festival of harvest. People celebrate it with great enthusiasm. It is to thank the farmers as well as the livestock.
People of Tamil Nadu celebrate it on the first day of the Tamil month "THAI", whereas it is called 'Sankranthi' in Andhra. People and farmers get up in the early morning and take an oil bath and wear new clothes. They prepare Pongal made of sugar and new rice. The pot is decorated with Turmeric leaves. The pot is kept on the ready-made hearth and they light the fire. When it is bubbling around the pot, the people around would shout 'Pongalo Pongal'.The children would be the happiest one as they would enjoy the time, as well as the sweet Pongal, served in banana leaves.
They love to offer thanks to the sun that offered all supports in their forming works. The next day they would decorate the cows and bulls too with colours. Even they conduct 'Jallikattu' a traditional sport the youngsters and youth of the local villagers from the neighbourhood would gather to see  taming the trained bulls in the arranged ground that says the valour and strength of the people. It is a great occasion for everyone in Tamil Nadu. People enjoy those days with great joy.
